I want to send multiple membership applications and/or renewals for people within my firm, can I send one cheque for the full amount, or do I need to separate them into individual cheques for each person?
One cheque to cover the payment of several applications or renewals is acceptable.
Please ensure that you include all forms relevant to the payment amount, and double check the total due is correct to avoid delays with processing.
Cheques should be made payable to ‘Australian Insurance Law Association’.
I live and work outside Australia, but still want to be a member of AILA. Can I join?
Yes. We have Associate membership as well as Individual membership available to international members of the Association. You will not lose any membership benefits by being an Associate member, and you only have to pay 50% of a full membership rate.
My firm is located in a town outside my States capital city; can I apply to be an Associate member?
Yes. Associate membership was introduced for anyone located outside of capital cities, in regional areas and international members anywhere in the world.
As an Associate member, will I be entitled to all the benefits other members get?
Yes. As an Associate member, we appreciate it may be difficult for you to attend seminars in your State or Territory to take advantage of the discounted fee’s.
You will still receive AILA News, have access to seminar papers, be listed as a member of the Association, attend the annual national conference at a discounted rate and, if you are able, attend seminars for the member rate.
How do I find out if my firm holds a corporate membership with AILA?
Contact the national office on 03 9899 5382 or email national@aila.com.au and we will be able to advise if your firm has established a corporate membership with us.
How many people from my firm do I need to be members of AILA to be eligible for State Corporate membership?
Your firm must have at least 7 or more members to hold a State Corporate membership.
How many people from my firm do I need to be members of AILA to be eligible for National Corporate membership?
Your firm must have at least 20 or more members across Australia to hold a National Corporate membership.
What is a State Corporate member?
A State Corporate member is a firm that is located within one State or Territory of Australia only, and does not operate from other cities.
The firm must have 7 of more members of AILA to be eligible.
To activate this membership category, the minimum number of members required must be submitted together.
What is a National Corporate member?
A National Corporate member is for firms located in more than one State or Territory of Australia, operating from multiple cities.
The firm must have 20 or more members to be eligible.
To activate this membership category, the minimum number of members required must be submitted together.
Will I have my own membership even though I am a State or National Corporate member?
Yes. Our members are listed as individuals to allow for flexibility. You will be linked to a corporate membership via your firms name on our database.
You will still receive your own copies of AILA News, invitations and annual renewal notices.
Although my firm has offices around the country, can my office apply for a State Corporate membership?
No. A firm with offices in multiple cities, States and Territories is only eligible for National Corporate membership, and not as independent offices.
Can I add new members to an existing State or National Corporate membership?
Yes. Please ensure that the correct membership fee is being paid and the relevant membership category box is ticked on the application or renewal form and the person will be added to your existing corporate membership.
If you are not sure if your firm holds a Corporate membership with AILA, please contact the national office on 03 9899 5382 or email national@aila.com.au.
Some of my colleagues have already renewed as individual members, and our firm would like to establish a corporate membership. Do they count towards our required minimum number of members?
Yes. Anyone who has renewed as an individual can be included in a corporate membership application to ensure your firm meets the minimum number of people required.
Please note that you must identify the affected members for them to be linked to your corporate membership.
As it is the responsibility for a firm to ensure there is a coordinated approach to corporate membership, we are unable to offer refunds for the difference between individual and corporate membership rates for those who have already submitted their applications/renewals.
Will AILA gather and coordinate memberships for our firm to be eligible for Corporate membership?
No. It is the responsibility of all firms for National and State Corporate membership to ensure a coordinated approach to membership is submitted for processing on an annual basis.
My firm is interested in joining as a National Corporate member, what do I need to do to set this up?
Any firm interested in joining as a National Corporate member must have a minimum of 20 people to apply or renew.
The forms must be submitted together to be eligible and we recommend you have a contact person within each State or Territory office, as well as a central coordinator to ensure your firms submission runs smoothly.
If you are unsure who is a member of AILA nationally from your firm, please contact the national office on 03 9899 5382 or email national@aila.com.au and a list of people can be supplied to you.
What do I do if I leave the firm where my Corporate membership is held?
You will still be listed as an active member of AILA if you leave your current firm of employment until the end of the financial year on 30th June.
Please ensure you update your contact details as soon as possible by either submitting a ‘Change of details’ form via this website or advise the national office directly on 03 9899 5382 or email national@aila.com.au.
