The highly successful Geoff Masel Lecture Series is now in its 11th year and is presented in 2016 by Justice Daubney of the Queensland Supreme Court who will examine recent national and international trends in the field of legal professional ethics, with particular focus on issues arising in insurance litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

The Honourable Justice Martin Daubney was appointed to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2007, becoming the 101st appointee to the Supreme Court.  At the time of his appointment, Justice Daubney was the President of the Bar Association of Queensland.

Justice Daubney graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws. After 18 months practising as a solicitor, he was admitted to the Bar in 1988. In 2000 he was appointed Senior Counsel.

Justice Daubney practised in Queensland as a barrister in both litigation and mediation.  From 1994, he was also admitted to practise in Fiji, and appeared in numerous trial and appeals in that jurisdiction.

In 2005, he chaired a Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland thoroughbred racing industry. 

Justice Daubney served on the Council of the Bar Association of Queensland for more than 10 years until the time of his appointment to the bench. 
Other appointments have included; Legal Practitioners Admissions Board of Queensland; Management Committee of the Queensland Bar Practice Course; Council of the Australian Bar Association; Law Council of Australia; Senate of the University of Queensland; King’s College; King’s College Council; Australian Catholic University; University of Southern Queensland Law School Advisory Committee; Australian Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Archdiocesan Finance Council of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane; Queensland Law Society Commercial Litigation Specialist Accreditation Committee; Judges’ Forum, International Bar Association; and International Bar Association Judicial Integrity and Expert Advisory Panel.
