December 2020

AIDA News

by Chris Rodd, AIDA Presidential Council Representative for Australia

The year 2020 is one many of us would like to forget.

The challenges of working in a Covid-19 ravaged environment have been stressful to say the least. For those of us living in Victoria, even more so. That said, we have fared far better than colleagues overseas. Except for our Kiwi friends, the impacts of the virus have been particularly profound for members in Europe, North and South America, many parts of Asia and in Africa.

Despite the difficulties, AILA has continued to run an extensive educational program through a regular series of webinars.

While not as extensive as AILA, AIDA has hosted events in Europe and South America.

Since my last report, AIDA has hosted the following:
12 August – AIDA Israel meeting
19 August  – AIDA Reinsurance Working Party zoom meeting, Buenos Aires
29 August – CILA-AIDA presentation: Liber amicorum in homage to teacher Rubin Stiglitz
16 September – 2020 AIDA Europe Assembly, Zurich
17 September – PRICL mock arbitration, Zurich
22 September – SEAIDA webinar – 40 years of LCS insurance: classicism and innovation
25-27 September – AIDA Serbia, 21st annual conference
28 September – Covid-19 and BI insurance, BILA virtual meeting: Tracing the test case – the FCA judgement
15 October – AIDSA cyber security webinar, joint meeting of AIDA’s motor insurance and  general principles of insurance law working parties
29 October – IX international conference, MGIMO Russia, ARIA, AEB (AIDA Russian Chapter)
5 November – AIDA Poland IX international conference: session on disputes and claims in modern insurance reality.
12 November – CILA general principles of insurance law working party webinar
19 November – AIDA Financial Lines and Cyber Working Party webinar (for Asia Pacific Region) via Zoom.

AIDA has expanded its membership by accepting Luxembourg as a new chapter.

With further countries expressing interest in joining the international insurance law association, I hope to give you news of further expansion to the membership soon.

AIDA is the international arm of AILA and I encourage you to visit the AIDA website (aidainsurance.org) and become engaged in the activities of one or more of the 14 working parties. You will gain a lot from participation and will be contributing to and networking with a substantial international insurance group .

I wish all of you and your families a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
