Former High Court judge heads conference program

The AILA 2015 National Conference is at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne,
from Wednesday 14 October to Friday 16 October.

The conference theme is A Sporting Chance.

Former High Court judge Kenneth Hayne AC QC is the keynote speaker. Mr Hayne (pictured) was on the High Court bench from September 1997 until June 2015.
Other speakers include:
• AIDA Presidential Council members Chris Rodd, from CGU, and Professor Marano, Catholic University
of Milan, Italy, will cover insurer websites, how contracts are formed and concluded, comparator
websites, lack of regulation, and the potential for misleading and deceptive conduct.
• Danny Masel SC and Diana Costaras, both from the Victorian Bar, will present on voluntary assumption of risk.
• A panel comprising Meryl Leiberman, senior partner, Traub, Leiberman Straus and Shrewsberry LLP; neurosurgeon Professor Jeffrey Rosenfield; and Sportscover’s David Lamb will consider concussive brain injuries.
• Ian Enright, from RGA Reinsurance Co of Australia Ltd, and Professor Rob Merkin QC, will discuss the impact of legal inputs on insurance pricing.
• Steve Goss, Sentry Business Resilience Solutions, and Jeremy Kann, from Leaders in Major Events, will present a session on risk management and insurance for sporting events.
• Jennifer Richards, Aon Risk Solutions, and Glenn Crombie, from Chubb Insurance, will look at cyber
fraud and emerging technologies.
• Panellists Marc Gibson, of Crawfords, Sam Sai, from IAG, and Jimi Groom, from Swiss Re, will consider claims management and catastrophe responses.

The social program starts with a welcome on Wednesday evening, with entertainment by a Melbourne busker and the Voices of Frankston (formerly the Choir of Hard Knocks).

Thursday night’s conference dinner is at the Hotel Sofitel and the social program concludes with lunch at the MCG, with guest speaker former Australian cricketer Damien Fleming, followed by a tour of the grounds.
