Industry support steadfastNZILA President’s message – Kavita Deobhakta Following the NZILA AGM, I am honoured to take on the role of President. My term starts at a particularly difficult time for New Zealand and the global community with the continuing challenges posed by Covid-19. However, the insurance industry continues to be steadfast in its support of businesses and individuals across the world. I would like to thank my predecessor, Myles Noble, for the excellent work he has done over the past three years and look forward to being able to call on his expertise as we continue to navigate through a changed world. I welcome the new Vice-president, Petra Lucioli, and I sincerely thank Secretary Frank Rose and Treasurer Leon Briggs for their commitment in each of their roles and their agreement to continue that hard work and dedication to our association. Our Secretariat, Carolyn Kay and Nicky Remkes, and the national committee deserve significant recognition for keeping NZILA’s objectives on track, by assisting in organising virtual events as we struggle, like all member representative bodies, to continue providing a strong, relevant and focused educational program for members, despite the odds. I welcome the incoming NZILA committee – Melissa Borcoski; Maree Cowan; Richie Flinn; Megan Gall; Keegan Harpur; Nicola Hughes; Craig Langstone; Monica Maharaj; Geraldine Wishart; and Peter Ziegler. Raising the bar in 2022Another level 4 lockdown across Aotearoa New Zealand forced the 2021 Conference Committee to make the difficult decision to postpone this year’s conference until 28-30 September 2022 in Queenstown. All 2021 registrations will automatically carry over to 2022 and we will then have an opportunity next year to “Raise the Bar” together. I look forward to welcoming domestic and international attendees to our jewel of the South Island. Reciprocal membershipI would like to remind NZILA members that we have negotiated a reciprocal membership arrangement with AILA, which means you can attend AILA events at member rates. While the pandemic has prevented many face-to-face events, the growth in virtual webinar presentations has broadened our horizons. AILA presents an array of webinars and NZILA members are welcome and encouraged to attend online. Season’s greetingsAs another difficult year draws to a close, I wish all NZILA and AILA members and their colleagues a bright and happy festive season and look forward to 2022 – whatever challenges it may bring. I trust we will be able to return to the collegiality that we so enjoy when we have opportunities to meet face to face. |
