News from AIDA - Rio World Congress beckons

by Chris Rodd, AIDA Presidential Council representative – Australia

I urge members in Australia and New Zealand to check AIDA's website for details of the AIDA World Congress in Rio De Janeiro on 11-13 October.

With world congresses held only every four years, Rio provides an exceptional opportunity for you to attend what may be your first AIDA Congress.

Having attended several myself, I can assure you they are exceptional meetings. It is an unmatched opportunity to meet fellow members from around the world and participate in the congress and the activities of one of AIDA's 13 working parties.

I chair the dispute resolution working party which, in Rio, will combine with the civil liability WP to consider various mechanisms used around the globe to resolve insurance litigation. We would love you to participate in the meeting and engage with fellow participants, particularly those from Latin American countries who will be there in significant numbers.

Australia has always been well represented at AIDA congresses so let's not make 2018 any different. Besides, Rio will be a great way to showcase and promote Melbourne for 2022.

In the lead-up to the congress we will see AIDA's new website go live. While it has been a long time coming and delayed for a raft of reasons, the new site promises a far greater range of features, including details of chapter events internationally and chapters' up-to-date contact details. It will also provide a forum to showcase AIDA chapters and their activities.

The Rio Presidential Council will formally welcome our newest councillor Jonathan Scragg, the NZILA President. It will be Jonathan's first meeting and it will be great to have another member from our part of the world involved in AIDA PC activities. New Zealand's  representation on the PC reflects the vibrant nature of the NZ chapter and acknowledges its importance to AIDA's overall objectives.

I hope to see as many of you as possible in Rio in October.
