Your chance to create global networks

By Chris Rodd, AIDA Presidential Council Representative – Australia

Keen to get more involved in the international insurance law association, AIDA?

AIDA offers a wealth of opportunities to take your insurance law career onto the global stage.

That includes attending, and perhaps even presenting at, an international event.

The 10th AIDA Europe Conference is in Athens, Greece, on Thursday 30 May to Friday 31 May 2024.

The conference theme is: The growing challenge of meeting customer needs: quo vadis insurance market?

Plenary sessions will cover, among other issues:

  • Emerging distribution models
  • Health insurance (how the insurance sector can complement the public health sector)
  • Digital risks (cyber insurance and crypto assets insurance) and the challenges of new technology and other disruptors
  • Underwriting, policy wording and claims responses in a world of climatic, technological, economic and geopolitical change.

The 2nd International Conference of the Jean Monnet Module on European Union insurance law: Challenges in the SDG era is on 11-12 July 2024, organised by Nova School of Law in partnership with AIDA Portugal.

The conference’s overarching topic is: What is sustainable insurance?

The second edition will be dedicated to SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth.

Interventions are welcome that explore links between that goal and other SDGs, 7 – Affordable and clean energy, 9 – Industry, innovation and infrastructure, 11 – Sustainable cities and communities, and 12 – Responsible consumption and production.

The timetable for the call for papers is:

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts: 31 March 2024
  • Successful applicants will be informed no later than 31 May 2024
  • Deadline for submission of full papers and posters: 1 July 2024
  • Conference publication: December 2024.

Program details are here.

Both these international conferences offer opportunities for AILA and NZILA members to be involved in what’s happening globally in the insurance law arena.

You can also take part in the AIDA working parties, which cover a wide range of topics:
Civil liability insurance
Climate and catastrophic events
Dispute resolution
Distribution of insurance products

If there’s a topic of interest to you, be part of the global conversation by participating in a working party. It can help you to build strong networks with insurance personnel overseas and enhance your reputation among your global peers.
