2018 APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED

The Ron Shorter Award is AILA’s flagship public speaking competition for young professionals in the insurance industry, providing invaluable public speaking training as well as exposure to industry peers and luminaries.

Over 200 young insurance professionals have benefited from the competition since it began in 2012.

In 2018, the competition is open to all young professionals in the insurance and insurance law industry, in every state and territory.

Who should apply

The competition is open to all young professionals (35 and under) in the insurance and insurance law industry. Applicants from previous years (excluding
previous winners) are encouraged to enter again.

To enter

Fill in the application form (link at te top of the page), including an insurance-related topic you would like to speak on.
For example, it could be a recent case, an issue affecting the industry, industry practices, the role of insurance in society, or even your own experiences
in the industry.
Entries close 4 May.

Early bird entries by 6 April go into the draw to win a $100 pre-paid VISA card!

How it works

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a public speaking training workshop. The workshops in Victoria (5 June), Queensland (12 June) and New South Wales (19 June) will be held at 5pm, at Colin Biggers & Paisley.
Invited applicants in South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and ACT will be designated to join in one of the above workshops by videolink (details to be announced).
The workshop in Western Australia will be held at Kott Gunning at 5pm on 26 June.

At the workshop, participants will receive training by Polaris Coaching, and will then give a two-minute presentation on their topic. Three finalists will be selected to progress to the final.

Finals

The finals in Victoria (19 July), New South Wales (26 July) and Queensland (9 August) will be held at Colin Biggers & Paisley. Any finalists from other states and territories (SA, ACT, TAS and NT) will be flown to their respective location (airfares and accommodation included).
The final in Western Australia will be held at Kott Gunning on 16 August.

At the final, competitors will speak for 10 minutes on their topic and battle it out for the grand prize before a panel of judges and an audience of industry professionals.
