EVENT: Conflicts Arising in Insurance Matters - Seminar, AGM & Dinner |
Description
Join us for a three-part event, commencing with a ‘Conflicts Arising in Insurance Matters’ seminar at 4:30pm.
This will be followed by the AILA Tasmania Annual General Meeting and drinks at 5:30pm.
Nominations are open for the Committee until 17th November 2016 and members of AILA are welcome to attend the AGM at no cost.
Nomination forms are attached to this email for your consideration.
The evening will conclude with a two course meal from 6:00pm*.
*Meal does not include beverages. Drinks are to be purchased by individuals.

Alison Clues BA.LLB
Alison finished her Arts/Law degree in 1987 and initially worked in a large Accounting firm in Melbourne providing tax advice. She was admitted to practice the law in 1990 in Tasmania. She initially worked at Murdoch Clarke predominantly in the area of personal injuries.
In 1993 she moved to Dobson Mitchell & Allport to manage their Launceston office. She moved to the Hobart office in 1998 & became a partner in 1999.
Alison has an extensive insurance law practice with particular expertise in workers compensation law.
After working over 20 years at Dobson Mitchell Allport, Alison commenced in her current position in June 2013 as the claims manager for the professional indemnity insurance scheme in Tasmania. In that role Alison’s work includes:
• Receiving claims notifications from practitioners;
• Reporting to and advising the insurers about each claim on an ongoing basis;
• Providing an initial assessment of a claim;
• Determining an appropriate strategy for each claim;
• Collating evidence, interviewing practitioners, inspecting file documents;
• Legal research;
• Briefing panel solicitors and barristers to provide advice in relation to claims and to conduct the defence of claims;
• Attending mediations and settlement conferences on behalf of the insurers;
• Maintaining a statistical database;
• Providing incidental advice to practitioners in respect of claims and claims notifications;
• Providing general assistance to practitioners in respect of the PII scheme;
• Educating the profession and the students of the Centre for Legal studies in relation to risk management (in the form of lectures, presentations and articles for the Law Letter).
Alison is a member of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee of the Law Society and is involved in organising an annual Risk Management Seminar for the Society as well as other CPD lectures and presentations.
