EVENT: Workers Compensation Masterclass 2016

Description

The Workers Compensation sphere is constantly evolving with the use of new technology, the recent prevalence of stress claims and tensions arising between employers and insurers.

The 2016 Workers Compensation Masterclass will address:

  • Surveillance issues;
  • Termination issues;
  • Social media use;
  • Stress claims; and
  • Effective return to work programs

The Masterclass provides you with the opportunity to attend alongside others within the industry, who are actively engaged in Workers Compensation claims. This includes brokers who sell the policies, individuals who manage the claims, and those who advise on the strategy and defence of claims.

The 2016 Masterclass will be presented using part-concurrent sessions by:

Chief Commissioner Carey returns in 2016 to conclude the Masterclass with an hour long interactive session, which is a wonderful and unique opportunity to hear from the Chief Commissioner outside of the Tribunal.

Tips and traps for obtaining, using and protecting surveillance and social media

Presented by His Honour Justice Stephen Estcourt, Supreme Court of Tasmania

His Honour will be discussing aspects of surveillance and social media and its use in the workers compensation context including how to obtain it ethically, how to protect it from discovery and identifying when it is able to be used.

 

 

The interplay between employment related and termination of employment claims and worker’s compensation claims

A panel discussion between:

  • Anne McCulloch
  • Graeme Wood
  • Sandra Taglieri

The panel will look at the tensions arising from the different points of view of the employer and insurers in disputing and managing workers compensation claims and talk about how to reduce and manage these tensions and obtain the best outcome for all involved.

The panel will look at returning an injured worker to their employment, best practices what modified duties entail and whether there is a requirement for reduced or graduated hours when the duties meet the other restrictions.

Stress Claims: How to reduce their expense and associated issues

A panel discussion between:

  • Chris Dockray

The panel will consider stress claims, how to reduce their impact and issues which can arise within the claim.
